Physical strength is empowering.  This is true both mentally and physically.  When we can see our muscles getting firmer and the amount of weight lifted is increasing, we feel improvement. Mentally this reminds us that we can improve, hard work does pay off.  Physically we know we can do more than we used to.  This may mean skiing all day, long hikes, or helping our neighbor move that heavy sofa.  I think as we age, this becomes more of an important concept.  The concept of improvement.
